IOM starts its annual campaign: 16 days of activism against gender-based violence
Latest estimates indicate that approximately 1 in 3 women, aged 15 and older, globally have experienced physical or sexual violence from an intimate or non-intimate partner, with little change over the past decade. Specific identity markers (disability, migration status, gender, socioeconomic status, etc.) intersect and can contribute to the vulnerabilities faced by individuals, acting hence as barriers to seeking help.
Despite this harsh reality, Gender Based Violence (GBV) remains one of the most underfunded sectors. It is crucial to recognize that #Invest2Prevent, is pivotal to effectively combat GBV. This year, IOM directs its attention to the pressing need for investment in prevention and collaborative efforts in tackling harmful social norms, gender inequality, and power imbalances.
IOM is committed to combating GBV by mitigating GBV risks, addressing its root causes, promoting gender equality and supporting survivors. Keeping at the center the rights and dignity of GBV survivors.
Within the Migrant Protection Platform, addressing gender-based violence has been included as a key protection thematic area, with NEW filtering boxes that allow users to access publications, webinars and media content on this subject in easier ways.
