This research report provides an overview of the current state of affairs in the field of assisted return of asylum seekers who have exhausted all legal remedies and other foreign nationals in the Netherlands. The research was performed within the context of the 2009 EMN working programme. A similar research was conducted in all EU Member States. The contributions of the various Member States will result in a single synthesis report. The object of the research is to share knowledge on assisted return between the Member States of the European Union. This will contribute to the development of policy that facilitates the return of asylum seekers who have exhausted all legal remedies and other foreign nationals that have decided to return to their country of origin. The research focuses exclusively on so-called 'third country residents’. A 'third country resident' refers to a person who is not a citizen of one of the Member States of the European Union.
