With an emphasis on protecting the rights of women and girls in communities impacted by extractive industries, the project "Enhancing the Response to Gender-Based Violence and Trafficking in Persons in the Solomon Islands" seeks to support ongoing initiatives to address gender-based violence (GBV) and trafficking in persons (TIP) in the Solomon Islands.

In terms of community health and violence against women and girls, communities impacted by extractive industries confront unique difficulties. These issues include heightened risks of sexual exploitation, trafficking and abuse.

The project, which is supported by the IOM Development Fund, focuses on five settlements in the province of Choiseul. IOM conducted an individual baseline survey in the target communities to better understand attitudes and perspectives in order to inform project actions. This survey was carried out in collaboration with province government counterparts in Isabel and Choiseul.
