Protecting the Rights of Children on the Move in times of Crisis
By the end of 2021, an estimated 89.3 million people had been forcibly removed from their homes; by the middle of 2022, that number had risen to a startling 100 million. As more children are impacted globally, they currently make up 42 million, or 41%, of all people who have been forcibly relocated. Multifaceted crises are causing an increasing amount of damage. Children's rights, particularly the right to be protected from abuse, neglect, and violence, are at risk due to crises brought on by armed conflicts, political unrest, climate change, and the consequences of health and financial issues.
This advocacy brief provides the lessons learned from previous and current global crises, provides guidelines for direct response to crises of a similar nature in the future and suggests legislative measures to guide future action for children on the move.
