The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Spain, with the collaboration and funding of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Government of the Kingdom of Spain, has launched a productive voluntary return project for Mali aimed to migrants from Mali who wish to return voluntarily to their country of origin, and contribute to the sustainable reintegration of returnees and the establishment of a "life plan".

Through this project, it is offered:

  • Information, advocacy and assistance prior departure.
  • Delivery in Spain of pocket money: 50 euros per person to cover immediate needs during the trip.
  • Return tickets to Mali and facilitation to manage travel documentation, if necessary.
  • Delivery in Mali of an individual financial aid: 400 euros to meet the first needs upon arrival in Mali.
  • Access to different reintegration services adapted to the specific needs of the returnee.

Responding to the needs, interests and abilities of the beneficiaries, reintegration aid will be adapted to their necessities. This assistance is delivered to the beneficiaries and/or service providers in cash, check, transfer or money order, or another methodology adapted to the Malian reality and IOM's administrative procedures.

Reintegration support generally allows a degree of flexibility and is ideally tailored to the specific needs of the returnee, taking into account specific migration experiences, vulnerability factors, skills acquired and circumstances of return. Such personalized assistance empowers returnees in the first place and creates an environment in which returnees take responsibility for the reintegration process and decide on the use of reintegration support.

Reintegration plans are designed in Spain and fine-tuned upon arrival in the country of origin with the beneficiaries (individuals or families) and the viability is assessed by the IOM mission in Mali upon arrival.

Reintegration interventions should seek to enable returnees to achieve levels of economic self-sufficiency, social stability within their communities, and psychosocial well-being.

  • Monitoring the reintegration process in Mali with the assistance of IOM Mali.
