Call for Research Abstracts on Migrant Smuggling

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) along with the IOM’s Immigration and Border Governance Division are launching a call for research abstracts focusing on the critical issue of migrant smuggling.

This initiative is part of the global United Nations Network on Migration (UNNM) Workstream, dedicated to "Ensuring migrant protection through strengthened responses to migrant smuggling and increased coordination on its linkages with trafficking in persons".

The Workstream invites researchers to submit abstracts of ongoing studies related to the following themes:
 

  • "Understanding decision-making processes shaping individuals’ choices to embark on smuggling-facilitated journeys".
  • "The impact of law enforcement operations to counter the smuggling of migrants on patterns of local development and mobility.
