This thesis focuses on Brazilian migrants who have resided in Belgium and who returned to Brazil through the system of voluntary return. The thesis investigates if and how these returnees become actors of development in their home region in Brazil. This question is approached through the analyse of the Belgian and European Reintegration Funds allocated to returnees. The migration and development nexus is often analysed through the question of economical remittances. But the way returnees will invest their time and money once they will return, and the way they will present themselves to the local community can also be considered as development.
