Economic Assistance Guidance for Prottasha Project
Sustainable economic reintegration of irregular migrants returning from the European Union countries to Bangladesh is a challenge due to the diversity of the economic and social backgrounds of the returnees. To address this challenge, the project Bangladesh: Sustainable Reintegration and Improved Migration Governance, also known as the Prottasha project, led by the Government of Bangladesh, is being implemented by IOM in partnership with BRAC. Funded by the European Union, the Prottasha project aims to provide individual or collective tailored economic reintegration support to ensure improved livelihoods and income opportunities for 3,000 Bangladeshi returning migrants.
A detailed guidance document is necessary in the implementation of the economic reintegration activities for returnees whose social, economic and geographic backgrounds are highly diverse. The first part of this economic reintegration guidance document presents tools and elaborates on the process to identify the best reintegration option aligned with individual needs, develop support plans and implement tailored individual assistance for the returnees. The second part includes the detailed legal and operational governance structure that complies with the relevant laws and regulations of the Government of Bangladesh, operation models, and basic business plans for developing and maintaining community enterprises for long-term sustainable livelihood of returning migrants.
