COMPASS Launches New Data Tool on Human Trafficking

HTDT

IOM’s COMPASS programme is excited to announce the launch of the Human Trafficking Data Tool, an online, easy-to-use and interactive data tool that allows policymakers to discover and compare regional data on victims and perpetrators of human trafficking for more evidence-based counter-trafficking policies.

                                                  Human Trafficking Data Tool

In 2022, IOM launched the first Global Victim-Perpetrator Synthetic Dataset in collaboration with Microsoft Research, which resulted in data that accurately preserves the statistical properties of the original victim data without revealing actual victims’ personal information. The dataset includes IOM case data from over 17,000 victims and survivors of trafficking identified across 123 countries and territories, and their accounts of over 37,000 perpetrators who facilitated the trafficking process from 2005 to 2022.

Data Made Simple

The Human Trafficking Data Tool is the visual representation of this data set. It provides first-hand information on the relationships between victims and perpetrators in an accessible, concise, and comprehensive manner. The portal provides a centralized platform where policymakers, lawmakers, and other stakeholders can access comprehensive trafficking data in a straightforward and non-complex manner while encouraging our partners to make informed decisions that are grounded in evidence.

Key Features
  • A User-Friendly Interface: Designed with accessibility and simplicity in mind, the portal allows users of all digital literacy levels to easily navigate and extract information that is most relevant to their needs, even in the most remote and connectivity-challenged areas.
  • Appealing and Downloadable Visual: The Human Trafficking Data Tool generates clear visual data that can be downloaded in just one click and used in presentations and reports.
  • Comparing Regional Data: All insights from the datasets can be filtered by geographical region, allowing users to compare trafficking statistics between regions and adapt policies to their local contexts.
Why It Matters

The IOM Human Trafficking Data Tool represents a significant step forward in our mission to advance countertrafficking in persons and exploitation. COMPASS urges all colleagues to visit this portal and encourages government partners to use this valuable tool to discover how it can be integrated into their work. By leveraging the power of data, we can develop strategies that not only respond to trafficking but also work to prevent it.
