Platform hosts webinar on Migration, Gender and Protection: Working Towards Transformative Approaches
On September 18 at 3.30pm (CEST) the Return and Reintegration Platform hosted the public webinar "Migration, Gender and Protection: Working Towards Transformative Approaches”. Simultaneous interpretation was available in English, French and Spanish.
Recognizing the intersection between gender and migration and their role in enhancing migrants' protection, this event presented the latest IOM resources on the subject, developed with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
Speakers from governments, academia and different stakeholders facilitated discussions on the transition from gender-sensitive to gender-responsive and transformative approaches. The event underscored the significance of dialogue platforms for the protection and inclusion of all migrants, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics (SOGIESC).
Overall, the webinar was an opportunity to broaden the understanding of the advancements and contemporary challenges in gender and migrant protection. It achieved this by discussing the latest IOM publications, which have been the result of collaborative dialogues with practitioners and partners, including the IOM's Cooperation on Migration and Partnerships to Achieve Sustainable Solutions initiative (COMPASS), the IOM’s Gender and Diversity Coordination Unit, and the Displacement Tracking Matrix; as well as representatives from academia, UN Women, BMZ and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
