The report provides a detailed account of the return and reintegration experiences of Iraqis coming back to their homeland after years in Al Hol Camp. This research builds on prior studies carried out by UNIDIR’s Managing Exits from Armed Conflict (MEAC) in 2022, run in partnership with IOM Iraq, UNDP Iraq, and the Swiss FDFA.

The report is based on quantitative, qualitative, and participatory research conducted between March and June 2023 with residents and staff of the Jeddah-1 Rehabilitation Centre, former residents, and community members and leaders in Mosul and Qa’im. It also conducted two participatory research pilot trainings with young Iraqis perceived as ISIL-affiliated, contributing both to the report's findings and the accompanying visuals. The report concludes with a discussion of the key policy and programmatic implications derived from these findings.
