IOM Mali COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan February-December2020
IOM Mali is actively supporting the Malian government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing on its experience from the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) crisis. A key element of this response involves assessing needs and capacities at 13 border crossings, six internal transit points, and 16 sanitary cordons, with ongoing evaluations conducted weekly. IOM has also trained border agents in southern Mali on COVID-19 prevention and protection measures.
The report will highlight IOM's work in raising awareness among internally displaced persons (IDPs) and migrants about COVID-19 prevention, while distributing hygiene and sanitary kits. The report also reflects on IOM's voluntary return programme to assist stranded migrants unable to return to their home countries. IOM is coordinating with the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) to ensure an effective COVID-19 response. By reallocating funds and reprogramming activities, IOM Mali has swiftly contributed to national pandemic efforts, with a focus on ensuring sustained support for the government’s recovery initiatives
