Although return is a natural part of migration patterns, it can also become a highly sensitive issue when migrants are not legally entitled to remain in their host country and decide to return home of their own volition or are compelled to do so by force. Irregular migration remains a prominent trend in Bali Process Member States. Through an Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) program, migrants have an option to return home when they are unable or unwilling to remain in their host countries and do not have the means to return to their country of origin.
