The 2024 UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons, the eighth report mandated by the General Assembly through the 2010 United Nations Global Plan of Action, provides a comprehensive overview of trafficking patterns and flows at global, regional, and national levels. One of the most alarming findings is that children now represent nearly 40% of all identified victims, with a significant number being unaccompanied or separated. Covering 156 countries, this edition offers an in-depth analysis of detected trafficking cases between 2019 and 2023, highlighting trends in detections and convictions and their evolution since the inception of UNODC’s data collection in 2003, particularly in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The report is enriched by the examination of over 1000 court cases adjudicated between 2012 and 2023, offering deeper insights into the crime, its victims, perpetrators, and the mechanisms through which trafficking in persons is identified by authorities. This edition features a global perspective on trafficking trends (Chapter 1), detailed regional analyses (Chapter 3), and a special chapter dedicated to Africa (Chapter 2), which uncovers trafficking patterns and flows within the continent, based on an unprecedented number of African countries covered.
