This report delves into the experiences of returned migrant workers in the Solomon Islands. It aims to enhance understanding of labour migration as a strategy for sustainable development and climate resilience in the Pacific. Primary data was collected from 500 returned migrant workers across all nine provinces and the capital, Honiara, between December 2023 and October 2024.

The socio-economic profiles of the respondents reveal that the majority were male (80%), with an average age of 35. Most migrated in search of better economic opportunities. Pre-migration preparations showed that 75% made migration decisions with their families, and 98% had jobs lined up before leaving.

During their migration, common sectors of work included agriculture and manufacturing. While 66% of the workers understood their employment terms, 28% experienced changes to their contracts. Upon return, 59% faced challenges finding jobs, yet 82% maintained a positive perception of their migration experience.

The report concludes with recommendations to improve pre-departure orientations, support mechanisms, and reintegration support for returning migrants.
